Elizabeth's Marriage
The Marriage Certificate states: Elizabeth Brew, of full age, spinster, residing in Caldicot, Wales, daughter of John Brew, Boatman, married Edward Jones, of full age, bachelor, labourer, residing in Caldicot, Wales, son of George Jones, labourer, on 7 January 1838.
The Marriage was held in the Church of Caldicot, in the County of Monmouth, 'according to the rites and ceremonies of the Established Church', the mark of 'X', Edward Jones [he was therefore illiterate], and Elizabeth Brew [her own signature], in the presence of witnesses Thomas and Maria Jones, presumably siblings, both undersigning with the mark 'X'. The ceremony was conducted by Henry S. Sayce.
