Amelia's Marriage Certificate

Thomas Murphy, full age, bachelor, engineer, Abode: St. Woolos, Father: John Murphy, Plate Layer, married Amelia Brew, full age, spinster, Abode: St. Woolos, Father: Thomas Brew, Ropemaker on 19 October 1851. Witnesses: William Niblett [husband of her eldest sister, Mary Ann] and Elizabeth Brooks, by Banns.

Note

Sometime during the year following their marriage, Thomas and Amelia moved to Chatham, Kent, which is where her oldest brother Thomas and his wife Jane were living. Nearby, in Plumstead, another brother, John, his wife Elizabeth and their children, were also living.

Amelia gave birth to four boys 1852 and 1864, but the eight-year break between the two oldest and two youngest may indicate there were also other children who did not survive childhood.

The entire family emigrated to Quebec, Canada in 1870, and then in the following years to Michigan in the United States, where descendants of the family still live today. For further information, please contact Diane Masson in Michigan.
